Recorded in 2014 by Morlot and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, "Firebird" uses the original version. It is a fascinating performance that makes full use of the large orchestra, with brilliant tone and instantaneous power. Recorded simultaneously is a piece called "The Sinewaveland" by Russian composer Nikolaev. Originally interested in the fusion of rock and classical music, this piece is also a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, whom he idolized as a student. In spite of the fact that it was forbidden to listen to Jimi Hendrix's albums in Russia at that time, Nikolaev secretly listened to the recordings and learned how to play the guitar, and his admiration for rock is evident throughout the piece. Of course, there are also influences from Stravinsky and Debussy in this interesting work. Naxos Japan
