While live recordings of Schubert song recitals have previously been released on Wigmore Hall’s in-house label, Schubert’s masterpiece *Winterreise* is now being released on the PENTATONE label. This marks Bostridge’s second recording of *Winterreise* since his session recording with Leif Ove Andsnes in May 2004. It is a live recording from Wigmore Hall in September 2018, featuring Thomas Adès on piano. In the fall of 2014, Bostridge undertook a highly successful European tour of *Winterreise* with Thomas Adès, and that same year, Faber & Faber published his book *Schubert’s Winter Journey: Anatomy of an Obsession* (Japanese translation: *Schubert’s “Winter Journey”*). In 2016, he won the Duff Cooper Prize in the nonfiction category, and the book has since been translated into 12 languages. Since then, he has demonstrated his profound understanding of this work through a series of performances, including a U.S. tour of *Winter Journey* with Adès, as well as performances of the orchestral version of *Winter Journey* arranged by Hans Zender in Taipei, Hesse, the Winterthur Musikkollegium, and Lincoln Center in New York—all of which garnered significant attention—demonstrating his profound understanding of the work through his performances.
