Andre Previn's monumental "Carmina Burana," recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1974, still shines as one of the most vibrant and masterful performances of this unrestrained cantata by Carl Orff. From the magnificent opening "Oh Fate," to the ecstatic finale chorus, Previn brings out the full rhythmic vitality, sensuality, and theatrical flourishes of this joyous hymn to life and love.
Each soloist shines with clarity and character, and the London Symphony Chorus and the lively Boys Choir push the performance to its rapturous peak. Recorded at the acoustically excellent Kingsway Hall and produced by Christopher Bishop, the realism and improvisation are vividly recorded.
For Previn, whose career as a classical musician blossomed in England, this performance also defined his rare ability to bridge serious musicianship with popular appeal. It is a vivid and unforgettable classical masterpiece that continues to resonate across generations.
For this re-release in analog LP format, the 1997 remastered recording was used, as a result of a test cutting process using several remastered recordings and other sources, which resulted in a large dynamic range and optimum balance effect, and a generously cut 2-CD set (4 sides), 140g The album will be produced in limited quantities as an analog LP record.
