A collection of Bach’s exquisite miniatures, brimming with depth and richness, released by Kemp—now in his 80s—and compiled across three LP records! Kemp had been performing Bach’s works for keyboard instruments since his youth. He also arranged chorales himself and enjoyed playing them as encores at concerts or to conclude master classes. It seems that this extensive performance experience greatly influenced the fact that Kemp’s Bach performances lack any scholarly stiffness and instead sound as if he were speaking directly to the listener. The Well-Tempered Clavier was recorded by Kemp on two LP records toward the end of his career, after he had turned 80. The first record features 12 pieces from Book 1, while the second includes 7 pieces from Book 1 and 5 from Book 2. Completely free of artifice, these performances possess a natural musical flow and are brimming with human warmth—both in their expression and tone. Even the fugues are played not as mere geometric patterns of sound, but as if the voices were engaged in a dialogue. It also includes the entire 1975 album *Kemp Plays Bach*. The 12 pieces—comprising Bach’s chorales alongside short works by Handel and Gluck—are brimming with beauty, both in their composition and performance. This 2-CD set is packed with the rich, evocative performances of Kemp’s later-career works—equivalent to the content of the three aforementioned LPs—making it a captivating collection that is perfect for savoring each piece individually or for playing as background music to enrich your daily life. For this reissue, we have incorporated the original jacket designs in various places. The front cover features the original jacket design from Volume 1 of *The Well-Tempered Clavier*, while the back of the booklet features the design from Volume 2. Furthermore, the jacket design for the *Collection of Miniatures* is printed on the underside of the inner tray. In terms of sound quality, consistent with our established concept, we used audio sources digitized from the original masters at high bit depth and high sampling rates (192 kHz, 24-bit) for the CD masters. As a result, you can enjoy a higher-resolution, smoother tone compared to previous releases. The booklet includes a newly written introductory essay. This is a collector’s edition worthy of commemorating the 120th anniversary of Kemp’s birth. For this Vol. 2, all five titles in the series will be released simultaneously.
