Description:

A large scale, well thought out gem of a "Song of the Earth". A session recording, but a powerful and truly full-bodied performance! The world's first SACD reproduction of the performance with its amazing expressive power and intensity! This is the fourth digital recording to be released on SACD! New commentary and lyrics translation are included. The performance, featuring two of the best opera singers of the day, Baltza and Koenig, is in full Tennstedt mode from the slow tempo setting of the first song, and the profound expression of each song is even more heartbreaking. Tennstedt's control of the music is particularly impressive, and the SACD release of this performance makes it clear once again that this is a highly virtuosic performance. The SACD version has been newly mastered from the original digital master in the original country for this release. New commentary and bilingual lyrics are included. Tennstedt had recorded Mahler's complete symphonies with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the old EMI label starting with No. 1 in 1977, and completed his recording of the numbered symphonies with No. 8 in 1986.The recording of the "Song of the Earth" was made during those sessions in 1982 and 1984, after the recording of No. 4 (May 1982) and No. 6 (April and May 1983), and before the recording of No. 8 (April and October 1986), which was the last remaining recording. However, the Earth Song was not included in the original set of the complete symphonies and was not released until 1992, about 10 years after the first recording. There is a theory that there were parts that needed to be re-recorded, but whatever the circumstances, it is undeniable that listeners' reactions to this album, which was suddenly released after Tennstedt's Mahler had peaked to worldwide attention, were slightly different from those to the symphonies that had been released up to that point. It is undeniable. Tennstedt was appointed principal conductor of the London Philharmonic in 1983, and was actively engaged in conducting the orchestra, including a tour of Japan in 1984, when he was diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer in 1985. After that, as you know, he devoted himself to treatment and rehabilitation and conducted less frequently, which may have been a remote cause. In any case, the remaining recordings were made before Tennstedt's illness, and Tennstedt's interpretation of the music is evident everywhere in the recordings. The performance, which is based on the score, is so powerful that even though it is a session recording, it conveys a sense of greatness, and the latest SACD release will surprise you again with its high level of mastery. This is a performance of great expressive power and Tennstedt's skill in bringing out the best of Balza and Koenig's abilities. The SACD layer aims to improve resolution with extended highs and soft nuances, while the CD layer aims for a cohesive, solid sound with a real sense of tone, The CD layer is designed to have a cohesive and solid sound with a realistic tone. The commentary is newly written by Ryosuke Masuda. The fourth edition of the Definition Series DIGITAL era will release three titles in total. (1/2)
