This performance at the Royal Festival Hall in December 1988, shortly after his arrival in Japan, is a rare live performance that is filled with Tennstedt's full power as he conducted with all his might from the beginning to the end. The dense "Fifth" symbolizes the deepening of Tennstedt's performance in his later years. This reissue of the SACD version is even more exciting and evocative of the atmosphere of the time.
