Klaus Tennstedt & London Philharmonic Orchestra

Description:

The world's first SACD release of this substantial live performance, almost 10 years after the session recording for EMI! The latest reissue of the deepened version of No. 5, with its improvisation shining through in the solid composition. This is the fourth SACD release of the digital recording! A truly superb performance that shows the Tennstedt at their best live with new commentary! This performance at the Royal Festival Hall in December 1988, shortly after his arrival in Japan, is a rare live performance that is filled with Tennstedt's full power as he conducted with all his might from the beginning to the end. The dense "Fifth" symbolizes the deepening of Tennstedt's performance in his later years. This reissue of the SACD version is even more exciting and evocative of the atmosphere of the time. The SACD layer was mastered separately from the SACD layer and the CD layer, and a new commentary is included. This is a masterpiece of a masterpiece, recorded live in December 1988, during a period of reduced performance opportunities due to medical treatment and rehabilitation after his illness in 1985. This live performance was recorded in December 1988, during a period of reduced activity after he resigned as principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987, a position he had held since 1983.Tennstedt, who had completed his complete symphony cycle with the 1986 recording of No. 8, was enormously popular around the world at the time as one of the best interpreters of Mahler's conductor. The tempo of No. 5 is the same as in the 1978 session recording, but the tempo changes more freely, and everyone was amazed by the greatness and tension of the live performance, and the sense of improvisation with the orchestra on the spot. After this recording, the charisma of all the live performances seemed to have grown especially strong. The performances were so wonderful that we now applaud EMI for releasing this live performance, and it is a groundbreaking album that left a huge impression on listeners. Although Tennstedt's willpower to fight his illness lies at the bottom of this album, the live performances that appeared on EMI and LPO's own labels afterwards were all very moving. The London Philharmonic Orchestra understood that this was a once-in-a-lifetime performance, and their attitude and actual performance of the piece gave great courage and inspiration to the audience. In the second volume of this series, we have already released live recordings of No. 1 (TDSA10007) from 1990 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Nos. 6 and 7 (TDSA10008) from 1991 and 1993, including the last performance and recording of No. 7, on SACD, and they have been well received. This latest reissue of the live performance is equally improved. We hope you will enjoy this immortal masterpiece in high sound quality. The SACD layer has improved resolution with extended high frequencies and soft nuances, while the CD layer aims for a cohesive, solid sound with a realistic tone, The CD layer is designed to have a cohesive and solid sound with a realistic tone. The commentary is newly written by Mr. Atsushi Suzuki. The fourth volume of the Definition Series DIGITAL era will release three titles in total. (1/2)
