Description:

Ida Handel Memorial Disc. Passion in the prime of life! Saint-Saens No. 3 live! This is a memorial disc for Ida Handel, who passed away at the end of June 2020. Saint-Saens No. 3 live, the only recording of this work, and a world premiere! Ida Handel was born on December 15, 1928, in Warsaw, Poland. However, since his visit to Japan with Rattle in 1998, he has frequently visited Japan and has made many fans in Japan. Her intellectual sense and superb technique on her beloved Stradivarius, made in 1699, and her passionate, sensual and beautiful sound are very attractive. This Saint-Saens was recorded when she was 33 years old. The second movement is lyrically sung, and the third movement is full of tension and passion. It is no wonder that Handel did not leave a commercial recording of this masterpiece. The orchestra is backed by Haitink, who became chief conductor in 1957, and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a live broadcast recording, and although there is some tape hiss and noise, the sound is well captured, including the orchestra. The coupling recording of Mozart's Concerto No. 5 is also Ida Haendel's only recording. This recording was previously released on TAH670 "Stradivarius Feast" (2CD) by Thala in 2009 (now out of print). Of course, the source of the sound source is different, and the sound trend is also different (the Turla disc has a wider range, while this disc emphasizes midtones and the "flesh tone" of the violins). The sound quality is solid with almost no noise, and the violin tone is rich. In the second movement, Handel's beautiful and powerful sound draws you in. The two pieces in the margins are reissued from the SP that Ida Handel put in HMV with Gerald Moore (piano) when she was 19 years old (the first reissue!). Both pieces were studio-recorded for Sprafon in 1962, and there is also a live performance at the Prague Spring Festival in the same year. The melancholy of Brahms and the passionate expression of Wieniawski, the great composer of his native country, are both wonderful and have become part of the repertoire in later years.
