Georgia (formerly Georgia) is a country nestled between the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. With its rich natural environment and ancient history as a backdrop, a diverse musical culture has flourished here, and polyphony in particular is well known throughout the world. This singing tradition, which is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, has different styles in different regions and is deeply rooted in celebrations, religious rituals, and even daily life. Ensemble Marani was formed by singers living in France who were fascinated by its mysterious and profound harmonies. This album contains 24 songs, including traditional Georgian folk songs, epic songs, and liturgical songs of the Orthodox Church, such as Kakheti, Guria, Mingrelia, and Ajaria, etc. Some songs were reconstructed based on field recordings from the early 20th century, and some songs were newly composed for movies, and the rich variety of songs is very attractive. The rich variations are appealing. The title piece, "Shalatin," is a solemn epic from the Abkhazian region, and the multi-layered sound of the male voices embodies the depth of this choral culture.
