The two masterpieces, written for educational purposes, are coupled in this album. Two major works for violin duo by Maria Mirshteyn, a violinist who was born in Moscow to a musical family and studied under Augustin Dumay in Belgium, and now teaches young violinists at the Amsterdam Conservatory, and Matthieu van Beveren, a Dutch virtuoso. The 44 duets, which Bartók wrote for teaching purposes, are based on folk songs from Eastern European countries, and the difficulty of the pieces increases with each one. The order of the pieces is unique, depending on the interpretation of the performers. Berio's duets were also written for teaching purposes, and are technically and conceptually varied, each named after its dedicatee or predecessor. Milshtein and van Beveren, who have already released a duo album on CHALLENGE CLASSICS, keep their focus to the very end with their unique breathtaking playing, seamless technique, and sharp expression.The overtones overlap each other, and you can enjoy the sound that cannot be heard between the two instruments.
