Description:

A Surprise! The first "London Symphony" in this series and Rossini! The "Haydn 2032" series will perform and record all 107 symphonies by 2032, the 300th anniversary of the birth of the "Father of the Symphony" Haydn, with the latest findings on ancient instruments. After fifteen releases that have focused on the fascination of the unknown and fascinating works of the early and middle Haydn, this release, subtitled "Surprises," is a collection of the most famous large-format works of the later Haydn cycle (commonly known as the "London Symphonies"). The other two symphonies, as well as No. 94 "Astonishment," which is the origin of the subtitle, have unexpected developments that keep you on your toes until the end of the last movement, and are dynamically and densely interpreted based on 18th century performance styles. The audience can fully enjoy this masterful performance, which makes us realize that the wit of the young Haydn, which Antonini has demonstrated up to this point, is still alive and well in these later works. This time, the two orchestras that have been jointly responsible for the project (the string orchestra is 8/8/5/5/3) will be joined by concertmaster Barneschi and many other old-time instrumentalists who are also active as soloists. Buccarella, the winner of the Bruges old music competition, has the luxury of participating only in a solo heard in a small part of the 4th movement of No. 98, not in the bass solo. It is also surprising that there is an overture to Rossini's early work at the end of the album, but by listening to this performance on ancient instruments with the commentary by musicologist Moritz-Bauer (in German, English, French, and Japanese), you will realize how much the master of Italian opera owed to Haydn. The Japanese translation of the commentary of the domestic version is included in the Japanese edition. Japanese translation of the commentary of the domestic version is provided by Tatsuo Shirasawa, Naxos Japan.
