The cpo label's popular series of complete symphonic works by Grażyna Bacewicz. The second collection opens with the dynamic "Overture" written in the neoclassical style, followed by the "Symphony No. 2" in traditional four movements, premiered by Witold Rowicki at the 1951 Polish Music Festival. The "Symphonic Music in Three Movements" at the end of the program consists of a short, aggressive first movement, a large, dense second movement that forms the centerpiece of the piece, and a rhythmic third movement reminiscent of Bacewicz's early works, a fuller and more complete music that seems to sum up her style. The third movement is a rhythmic dance reminiscent of early Bacevich works. As in the first collection, the Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ukaš Borović, gives a crisp and complete performance. Naxos Japan
