Nikolai Capustin is known for his fusion of jazz and classical music. He played the piano with a touch as free as that of Oscar Peterson or Errol Gana, but when composing, he also notated all the improvisations in jazz and wrote his works as if he were improvising. In this album, pianist Frank Duprey and his colleagues, who performed the Piano Concerto No. 4 (C5437) with great skill, have arranged Capustin's various piano pieces for jazz trio. They play improvisational yet meticulously written pieces with a jazz-like ease. The pieces have a new charm to them. Frank Duprey] German pianist who won the prestigious Opus Classics Prize in 2018 for his recording of the piano concerto by Antheil (C5309). Originally trained as a jazz percussionist, he has somehow opened his eyes to the breadth of the piano repertoire and developed a special enthusiasm for performing 20th century and contemporary works. He has maintained a close relationship with Peter Eötvös and has given the world premieres of several of his works.
