Medoro and Angelica are washed up from a shipwreck. Orlando, who is in love with Angelica, takes advantage of this opportunity to kill Medoro. Then the witch Alcina appears. She tricks Orlando into marrying Medoro and Angelica while she goes to the fountain to get water, and Orlando loses his mind when he finds out... Vivaldi's opera "Orlando mad" is based on the Renaissance Italian epic poem by Ludovico Ariosto. Vivaldi created three operas from this epic poem, and many Baroque and Classical composers, including Handel, Lully, Haydn, and Meyerl, are known to have used it as the basis for their own operas. The work is a breathtaking work, with arias and recitative alternating with superbly crafted arias and recitative.The role of Orlando, which requires a wide range of expression, is unique in that it is sung by a woman, and is one of the most popular of Vivaldi's many operas. In this video, talented young singers compete with each other in a lavish depiction of a world of intrigue and magic, with the use of large-scale equipment and beautiful costumes, in a co-production with the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, one of the most remarkable performances of the 2017 "Valle d'Itria Festival".
