Description:

<Vee Jay's 1962 album, the culmination of Eddie Harris' lyrical and soft side, "Film Music Covers," is now available in Japan with an Obi commentary by All Days Records. *This item is not in paper jacket, but is a normal imported domestic version with obi commentary. This is the first time that a long-time Harris fan has asked me "Tonight? This is because the title was changed when it was released on CD. The original title was "Eddie Harris Goes To The Movies," which may remind some of you of the Vee Jay recordings. Harris signed a contract with V-J in 1961. Harris covered "Exodus," the theme song of the movie "Escape to Glory," and the single version of the song became a hit, selling over 2 million copies. He quickly became one of the company's star performers. The music business world is always eager to catch a second fish. It did not take long for Harris to add songs for movie themes and inserts to his repertoire.Eddie Harris Goes To The Movies" is the culmination of Harris's "movie music cover" line. It was first released in Japan in the spring of 1963 under the Japanese title "Enchanting Tenor Goes to Hollywood" by JVC (at that time). This album is a taste of the mellow world of Eddie Harris before he moved to Atlantic and released funky numbers such as "Listen Here" and "Cold Duck Time". Another star of this album, "Tonight," is the strings, arranged and conducted by Dick Marks. He is as multi-talented as Harris, and has accompanied Helen Merrill and others as a pianist, written songs for soap and gum commercials, written music for TV and movies ("A League of Their Own", etc.), and performed with Joe Cocker, Homer & Jethro, and others, He has also provided arrangements for Joe Cocker, Homer & Jethro, and X JAPAN ("Art of Life").Unfortunately, he died in 1997 at the age of 73, but his son Richard Marks remains a highly popular singer and songwriter. Dick's string arrangements may be too sweet to be considered jazz. However, Harris seems to be really comfortable as he blows the melody with ease over the flowing string sounds. This is a must-have for Harris lovers. ~From the commentary by Kazunori Harada
