Description:
The latest installment in the highly acclaimed series!! Masterful technique, exhilarating intensity, and rare sophistication Loto’s top pick—the first draft version offers an exceptionally engaging and shocking experience of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3! The third installment in the highly acclaimed Bruckner Complete Symphonies series featuring Roto and the Gürzenich Orchestra. This recording features Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3, which, among his symphonies, was revised most frequently and exists in three drafts. Dedicated to Wagner, whom he deeply admired, and incorporating musical ideas reminiscent of Beethoven’s “Ninth”—a work he also longed for throughout his life—this monumental piece is presented here in the 1873 first draft, chosen by Roto for its bold experimental spirit and overflowing joy. This score encapsulates Bruckner’s original artistic vision in its purest form; it is the version with the longest playing time and is also highly regarded by Roto himself. It is a rich and fulfilling performance, meticulously attended to in every detail, that makes the refined sound ring out with a fresh brilliance. Although the music is monumental, it is full of momentum, allowing the listener to sit through the entire piece without a moment of boredom. The finale, which skillfully builds up a weighty, dense mass of sound without ever losing its brisk sense of speed, is breathtakingly exciting and fascinating. The simple, lyrical phrasing that appears in unexpected places—beginning with the opening of the Adagio—is truly beautiful, refreshing, and exquisite. From start to finish, the performance is brimming with the freshness and radiance of music being born in the very moment, as well as deep emotion. King International
