Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff celebrates his 150th anniversary in 2023 with a 2-CD set of "Brilliant Sounds" by Grammy Award-winning artists. Deutsche Grammophon follows up on its commemorative release of the piano concertos recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the musical direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov, with the release of Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3 and the symphonic poem "The Island of Death". This 2-CD set, together with the 2021 album of Symphony No. 1 and "Symphonic Dances," completes the Rachmaninoff symphony cycle. The 2021 album was hailed by Gramophone magazine as "an exploration of Rachmaninoff's extraordinary legacy with Philadelphia and a renewal of his impactful innovations...an utterly remarkable album."
