Harry Christophers & The Sixteen's new project will start in 2011, the 10th anniversary of CORO. It is a collection of choral works by Giovanni Pierluigi Palestrina (c.1525-1594), a master of the late Italian Renaissance! A choir singer in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome and the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, Palestrina composed more than 100 masses and over 350 motets in his lifetime. Palestrina's polyphonic style, known as the "Palestrina style," is said to have greatly influenced The Sixteen's specialty, the Spanish Victoria. The first installment of The Sixteen's highly anticipated Palestrina series features "Prayer Music for the Virgin Mary" and "Song of Solomon.The Sixteen's new series "Palestrina", which will stand alongside the highly acclaimed "Victoria" and "Handel", is about to begin!
