Minus The Bear
Description:
Seattle five-piece emo-math-rock band MINUS THE BEAR, who have been playing the latest indie rock since their emergence from the hardcore scene, released their third album in 2007, combining post-hardcore technical guitars and pop songwriting. The album is highly acclaimed for its sense of scale, incorporating progressive rock, 70's AOR, and space rock, while building on the polyrhythmic guitars and electronica introduced on their previous albums. The album was recorded at ROBERT LANG STUDIO in Shoreline, Washington and RED ROOM STUDIO in Seattle, and was produced by MATT BAYLES, an old member of the band. This is also the first time ALEX ROSE joined the band as an official keyboardist, and the layers of harmony created by the guitars and synths have been thickened even further. The emotional guitar riffs and odd time signature beats of "BURYING LUCK," the floating synth phrases and guitar arpeggios of "ICE MONSTER," the sample-like loops and sharp guitar lines of "KNIGHTS," and the sophisticated chords and rhythm section of "STEELY DAN" are all on "BURYING LUCK," while "BURYING LUCK" is a more melodic and melodic track. L'LING" brings together the progressive rock sensibilities of GENESIS and KING CRIMSON with modern indie rock, and "WHEN WE ESCAPE" has a post-rock feel with guitars clad in spatial effects. The band's dense songs include "When We Escape," which has a post-rock feel with spacey effect guitars, and "Lotus," which has a long development reminiscent of Pink Floyd's "Echoes," but with their own pop sensibility. The sound, which combines the techniques of post-rock and mass rock with the melody-orientedness of Seattle indie rock, is something that cannot be missed when looking back on the guitar rock of the late 2000s.This reissue comes at an opportune time for fans of the band's early work, as well as for listeners who want to re-listen to MINUS THE BEAR in the wake of the recent reevaluation of progressive rock and post-rock. This is a limited edition color vinyl version remastered by BERNIE GRUNDMAN.
