Songs of Life—Iván Eret: A Collection of Art Songs Iván, the father of singer Adrian Eret, was a composer from Hungary. His family was murdered at Auschwitz. He later studied piano under Kadosha and composition under Szabó in Budapest. During the 1956 Hungarian Uprising, he moved to Austria and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. From 1989 onward, he served as a professor, mentoring many students. It is noteworthy that among them were Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Kirill Petrenko. His art songs are linked to significant events in his life. These include “Songs of Baby Teeth” and “The Crocodile Slide,” dedicated to his children; the four songs based on poems by a Soviet poet that he composed when martial law was declared in Poland, *Singing on the Ashes*—an elegy for the Jews persecuted in his childhood and massacred during the war—and *Song of the Eightieth Birthday*, which he completed the day before his death—all make him a figure who must be reevaluated as a witness to history.
