The long-awaited return of an extraordinary masterpiece! The Gesualdo of Herreweghe! Carlo Gesualdo (c. 1561-1613), often called "Don", came from a prestigious family in the Kingdom of Naples. His talent blossomed as he met with Not a professional composer, Jesualdo was not influenced by the tastes of his clients, and he established his own unique musical style. His use of dissonances and chromatic scales, which were quite novel for the time, are often described as "manieristic. This strong commitment to expression undoubtedly gives his works a unique tension of anguish and sadness. The "Responsorium for Holy Saturday" is a late work in which the radicalism has receded and bold techniques are used only to delve into a quiet sadness.Heartbreakingly beautiful and sad, this is a major achievement of the rare genius of Gesualdo. The performance by Herreweghe and Chapelle Royale is one of the most famous performances of this work. They perfectly combine the two difficult elements of tension and softness.
