Description:
Live at the Philharmonie Saal, Berlin, January 13, 1966! The intensity of Barbirolli's passion in performance is not always apparent in his official recordings, but the explosive power of this performance is tremendous. The Berlin Philharmonie's functionality as an orchestra is what makes this performance a masterpiece. Barbirolli and the BPO are famous for the episode of "the decisive performance of Mahler's 9th, which was officially recorded in 1964," but their relationship was long-lasting. Barbirolli was a typical "mature conductor", and his fame in his later years was enormous. The music he created is rich and humane, as if influenced by the fact that he was a cello virtuoso himself. His repertoire consisted mainly of English music, Sibelius, and, above all, Mahler. The fullness of his performance, especially between the 1960s and 1970s (he died in July), shows the "virtuosity of a master." The conductor who exploded with his own passion in "live" music, and the super orchestra's skilled musicians who responded to his passion with awe.The fundamental charm of the "tragic" No. 6 can be felt clearly in this performance. 40 years later, this is a must-hear recording that has been waiting for an official release. This is a monaural recording from the RIAS Berlin broadcast.
