Description:

The fourth volume of Stéphane Denève's five-volume collection of Ravel's works is the opera "A Time in Spain" (the fifth volume, "The Child and the Magic," will be released in April 2017). This opera, which is said to be Ravel's (1875-1937) Spanish version of the Italian "Opera Buffa," is a comical depiction of "a little game between a man and a woman," with an esprit and irony that makes it suitable for adults. The lead role of Concepcion is sung by Stephanie Dostrack, a mezzo-soprano active mainly in baroque operas. The unique expressions of all the characters, including her, supported by their solid vocal abilities, are a must-hear. Dostrack's "Scheherazade" is also beautifully sung with rich nuance.
