The Mingus Three" was recorded on July 9, 1957, by Charles Mingus as a trio with pianist Hampton Hawes, a childhood friend who played in the bands of Charlie Parker and Dexter Gordon, and drummer Danny Richmond, who would go on to play with Mingus for more than 20 years.
