Sometimes a musette, sometimes a bandoneon, sometimes a collection of seven different accordion encores by Mikie Mikie, the queen of the accordion. She has been highly acclaimed for her performances of serious works, including many contemporary works and Bach, but it is her pop pieces she plays in between concerts that reveal her tenderness and cheerful charm. In response to fan demand, she has recorded a new album of these pieces. The music is varied, including Dacan and Rameau like baroque positif organs, fashionable Legrand and Astia like French musettes, and Piazzolla like a bandoneon. The groove and coolness of the music is not classical at all, and one is amazed at the depth of Mikimie's nostalgia. Oginski's polonaise, which is also the theme of Angel Wajda's "Ashes and Diamonds," is also a masterpiece. It will make you cry. King International
