Description:

Sacchai Curtis, brother of the Curtis Brothers, who leads the forefront of Latin jazz, releases an album under his own name! Afro-Cuban jazz, with Mario Bausa as its ancestor. According to Sakkai, there are two major schools of jazz, which are like two sides of the same coin. One is "instrumental mambo jazz," named by Eddie Palmieri. The first is "instrumental mambo jazz," named by Eddie Palmieri after Mario Bauza and Machito, and represented by Bebo Valdez, Tito Puente, Perutin, and Palmieri. On the other hand, the other "Cubap" can be described as bebop works with Afro-Cuban elements added mainly to the rhythm section. Cubana-Be Cubana-Bop (1946) by Dizzy Gillespie, Chano Pozo, George Russell, and others, and Manteca and Tin Tin Deo (1947) were the first examples, as were Stan Kenton, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey, Stan Kenton, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey, Cal Jader, Billy Taylor, and others paved the way. Cubop Lives!" explores both styles, instrumental mambo jazz and Cubap. The album includes the Noro Morales Suite starting with "Maria Cervantes," "When I Fall in Love" and "Someday My Prince Will Come" influenced by Manny Oquendo & Libre and Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band, American Songbook covers, "Contour," a tribute to Jackie McLean, and "Jazzin" by Hilton Lewis, which bursts with the spirit of bebop, as well as his own take on these influences. American Songbook covers such as "When I Fall in Love" and "Someday My Prince Will Come," a tribute to Jackie McLean on "Contour," Hilton Lewis' "Jazzin," and original compositions such as "Black Rice," a sublimation of these influences in his own way. The rich roots of Afro-Cuban jazz are chewed over and refreshed with tight ensemble playing and elegant improvisation, making this one of the best Latin jazz releases in recent years.
