Description:

The English female poet Edith Sitwell and composer Walton first met around 1916. The connection was made when Walton enrolled at Christ Church, Oxford University, and became good friends with Edith's brother Sacheverell. Walton eventually dropped out of school and went straight to live with the Sitwells to become a composer. His first claim to fame as a composer came in 1922 with "Facade," a story based on Edith's poem. Later turned into ballet music, this is a delightful piece that also includes a narrative. Carol Boyd, a British actress who plays the role of Linda Snell in BBC Radio 4's popular radio drama "The Archers," is a veteran of television, radio, and stage productions with a career spanning more than 35 years. Also included at the same time is a reprint of a 1955 radio program in which Edith Sitwell is interviewed. Her memories of Walton are discussed. Naxos Japan
