Description:

Five shakuhachi players have leaped to the forefront of contemporary music. They express contemporary Japanese works by shakuhachi quintet from prewar legends such as Toru Takemitsu to Dai Fujikura, take up submissions from young aspiring composers, and commission original compositions from mid-career composers. The Shakuhachi 5 is a super school shakuhachi group formed by five members who have been seeking not only classical music but also contemporary expression. Their debut album invites you to an unknown world of music with their outstanding sense and technique. <The Shakuhachi 5 is a super school shakuhachi group formed by Akito Kohama, Aizan Kawamura, Suzutaka Kuroda, Akinao Kominato, and Kenichi Tajima, who have been seeking not only classical music but also contemporary expression. The group recorded and released a video of the telework piece "Longing fromafar" by composer Dai Fujikura. This was their substantive debut. In the same year, they were featured on the cover of Hogaku Journal magazine, with an interview at the beginning of the magazine.He has been actively commissioning and premiering shakuhachi pieces, and is pioneering the future of shakuhachi music. <Akito Kohama studied under Toshimitsu Ishikawa and completed the NHK Traditional Music Technicians Training Program. He is the winner of the Shakuhachi Newcomer's Championship. He has appeared in many performances sponsored by the National Theatre of Japan and at international music festivals. Performed the world premiere of "Shakuhachi Concerto/Ensemble Version" (composed by Dai Fujikura). He has released 10 CDs in total, including this collection "Jakujing Kouin". <Studied shakuhachi under his father, Taizan Kawamura. He won the Grand Prize at the Kumamoto National Traditional Japanese Music Competition. Won the Gold Prize in the Miyakoyama School National Honkyoku Competition. He is a member of the Japanese orchestra "Mutsu-no" and the J-TRAD ensemble "MAHOROBA". <Studied under Suzunori Kuroda II and Suzunobu Aoki III. Winner of the International Shakuhachi Competition 2018 in London. He has given solo performances all over the world and continues to premiere new works. Soloist of many new shakuhachi concertos. Member of the hogaku quartet RigarohieS. He is a member of RigarohieS, a hogaku quartet. <Akinao Kominato is a shakuhachi player of the Kinko-ryu school and the third generation Iemoto of the Kominato-ryu school of min'yo. Studied under the late living national treasure Goro Yamaguchi. He graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music at Tokyo University of the Arts and made his major debut with avex in 2004. He is a tourism ambassador for Sukagawa City in Fukushima Prefecture and a general producer of NHK WORLD's "Blends. <Kenichi Tajima graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006, and was an assistant professor at the same university from 2009 to 2012.Winner of the New Artist Award at the 69th Japan Arts Festival in 2014. General director of Yurujin. Leader of the Kenichi Tajima Memorial Opera Company. Member of the Japanese Instrumental Orchestra Aioi. Member of the Japan Sankyoku Association. Camerata Tokyo
