On the 150th anniversary of his birth, R. Strauss: Another World Richard Strauss, renowned composer of songs, symphonic poems, and operas, composed a great deal of chamber and instrumental music in his youth. From the quartet he is said to have composed at the age of 11 to works by the 29-year-old, the talented Italian pianist Costantino Catena will present the world of piano music by R. Strauss. <Costantino Catena studied with Luigi d'Ascoli at the Giuseppe Martucci Conservatory in Salerno, Italy, and graduated with a perfect score. He studied with Costantino Bogino, Bruno Mezzena, and Boris Bekhterev. His encounters with Aldo Ciccolini and Joaquin Achuaro were also important turning points in his musical studies. He has won prizes in numerous national and international competitions.He has performed at the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, the Kennedy Center, Georgetown University, Amici del Teatro Regio di Torino, Amici della Musica di Trapani, the Dante Alighieri Society, the Ravello International Music Festival, the Alghero International Music Festival, the Bologna He has performed at major musical and cultural organizations, institutions, and festivals, including the Liszt Society, the Tchaikovsky Memorial Moscow Conservatory, the Kusatsu Summer International Music Festival, and the Ohrid Summer Festival. In recent years, he has participated in performances of all piano works by the Conservatory of St. Cecilia, the Chigiana Conservatory, and the Liszt Society at the Parco della Musica Hall (Rome) in 2011 to commemorate the bicentennial of Liszt's birth. In the field of chamber music, he has also performed with Alessandro Carbonare, Franco Maggio Olmeczowski, Gabriele Geminiani, Maja Bogdanovic, Michele Romuto, Sashiko Gavrilov, Sabrina-Vivian Hepker, Claudio Casady, Lynn Dawson, and Claudio Brizi, and the Savinio String Quartet, among other internationally acclaimed performers. He has taught at many conservatories and is a professor of piano at the "Domenico Cimarosa" Conservatory in Abbellino. In addition to his performing activities, he holds degrees in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Salerno and the University of Naples, respectively.
