This year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Kazuo Yamada (1912-91), a great conductor who always led the Japanese music world in the Showa era and nurtured the audience and orchestra in the early days of Western music. His passionate performances and activities were the embodiment of a "true artist. In Yamada's repertoire, which spanned from classical to contemporary music, Mahler holds a special place. His dramatic performances, as if possessed by the composer, were worthy of the title of "world authority," and he was a specialist recognized by both himself and others. The concert recorded on this CD on June 7, 1986 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan was planned to commemorate the 42nd Japan Art Academy Prize awarded to Kazuo Yamada in the same year, and many fans have long been waiting for the release of this recording. This performance of Mahler's masterpiece, the Ninth Symphony-over 90 minutes long-is the sound of the soul of a master who devoted his whole being to music. FONTEC
