The Moment of Destiny Arrives for GODFLESH The End of the Pioneer of Industrial Metal: The Prologue to Their Final Album Justin K. Broadrick is now entering his 45th year as a musician. Although he helped shape the musical style of Napalm Death in its earliest days as a guitarist, he left the band without hesitation, stating, “I got bored after six months.” In 1988, he founded GODFLESH, drawing inspiration from THROBBING GRISTLE and KILLING JOKE to create a sound featuring hip-hop-influenced, thick machine beats, heavy riffs, dissonance, and noise, along with ambient-style guitar work, and a thick, undulating bass line, all delivered with a harsh intensity. Alongside MINISTRY and NINE INCH NAILS, he helped shape the blueprint for industrial metal and influenced subsequent artists. Although Justin had stated that he was satisfied with all the albums released since GODFLESH’s return from hiatus, the “rage” at the root of his creativity never faded, and he continued working on new material intermittently. During this time, in the fall of 2025, he suffered a serious illness and underwent major surgery, bringing everything to a halt. Fortunately, his post-surgery recovery was extremely positive, but he stated, “Studio work is no problem. I can play guitar and perform live, but I can’t scream anymore,” leading him to decide to disband GODFLESH. All parts for this album, including vocals, had been recorded before his serious illness, and the mixing was completed after he was discharged from the hospital. While the previous album, *Purge* (2023), evoked their seminal work *Pure* (1992), *Decay* strongly reflects Justin’s roots and his loyalty to the original “industrial” sound.
