Description:
A popular series introducing the latest American wind band works, this album features works by Pulitzer Prize winner Schwantner, Maslanka, who is highly popular in Japan, and Bryant, who studied composition with Corigliano. Schwantner's "Luminosity" is a title that means "the luminosity of a celestial body." To show the "brightness of light" in sound, percussion and piano are placed at the front of the stage, with brass and woodwind instruments lined up behind them in a dazzling instrumentation that brings a rich resonance. Maslanka's "Hosanna" is based on a chorale by J.S. Bach, to which he added his own expression. It is a diverse work that includes quotations from his own compositions. Bryant's music is known for its high performance quality and has a unique flavor, with its bold use of dissonance and shimmering lyricism. This "Logic of All Dreams" is one of a large series, "The Alchemy of Quiet Places," a delightful piece that also makes use of piano, percussion, and other instruments to create a gorgeous sound.
