The title of this CD, "Elegy," expresses our desire to share our sorrow and pain, and to bring music with hope. On March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred and the whole country was enveloped in deep grief. Two days later, I was scheduled to give a concert, and I wondered if it was appropriate to be playing music at a time like this, or if I should even be performing.I was tempted to think that music was powerless, that it could not help the victims, and that I should not perform, but after much hesitation, I decided to perform. Music may not be able to change anything, but I believe that it can light a light of hope in people's hearts, which will give them the strength to live and move forward. We hope that you can feel even one of those hopes. Thank you very much for picking up this CD. In closing, I would like to share a quote from Clark Moustakas, an American psychologist and counselor. If grief is accepted as one's own and felt at the core of one's being, then suffering grows into compassion for other human beings and for all living things. The heart is opened by the suffering, and out of the sadness arise new feelings of cheerfulness and joy." Kanade Kato (Rats Pack Records)
