Boxwood & Brass, a British ensemble in which all players play period instruments, appears on the resonus label. Their debut album is a collection of works by Franz Tausch, a composer belonging to the Mannheim School of Music, and the composers who surrounded him. An excellent clarinetist, Tausch played in the Mannheim orchestra and was also a court musician in Prussia, but he was also an excellent teacher and is known for having mentored many clarinetists, including Heinrich Behrmann. His works, written during the transitional period from the Classical to the Romantic period, all have a salon-style beauty, but the stylistic changes were firmly passed on to his students.
