A live album of the 48th Annual Concert held in December 2025. Rika Ishige’s “Ama-no-Iwato: Labyrinth of Time,” which won the Gold Prize at the All-Japan Band Competition, is the ensemble’s first commissioned work in six years. This piece showcases Ishige’s distinctive style, incorporating the myth of Ama-no-Iwato with the unique element of a distortion in space-time. Holzingger’s “When Spring Comes and the Kings Go to War,” conducted by a student conductor, surprises listeners with a vivid sound that defies the fact that 40 years have passed since its composition. The main program, performed by the entire ensemble of approximately 150 members, features Stravinsky’s “The Firebird,” which the group is performing for the first time in 16 years. Under the baton of Seiji Sagawa, who values “love and song” above all else, you will be able to fully savor the sound of the Bunkyo University Wind Ensemble as they perform everything from delicate beauty to grand tutti passages.
