Recorded in Havana, this album was also Ry Cooder's first time on the world circuit since "Talking Timbaktu," which won a Grammy in 1994.The album, produced by the versatile guitarist Ry Cooder in his legendary Havana studio with some of Cuba's top singers and musicians, features legendary singer/guitarist Compay Segundo, Rubén González, whom Cooder calls "the best solo pianist I've ever met", Santiago-born Son veteran Ibrahim Ferrer on vocals, "the golden voice of Cuban music", and "Cuba's Ed Edgard". Buena Vista Social Club: 25th Anniversary Edition" features the latest 2021 remastering of the original album, plus previously unreleased material from the original 1996 recording sessions. The album was remastered by Bernie Grundman, and the previously unreleased material on CD2 and LP2 includes outtakes and alternate versions from the album, including "Vicenta" with vocals by Eliades Ochoa and Compay Segundo.
