Description:

Boërmant, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Lalo! A collection of works for cello and orchestra representative of late 19th century France, performed by the virtuoso Marc Coppey in his hometown of Strasbourg! The French cellist Marc Coppey is known for his careful music-making and graceful tone. In recent years, he has been actively releasing works on the German audite label. This album is a collection of works for cello and orchestra focusing on French composers of the late 19th century, performed with the Orchestra Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the orchestra of Coppey's hometown of Strasbourg, and conducted by John Nelson! Coppei says, "I grew up listening to the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra at Salle Erasme (Erasmus Hall), so it is a great pleasure for me to be able to play this repertoire with this orchestra. Starting with the symphonic variations for cello and orchestra by organist and composer Léon Boërmant (1862-1897), the program will include the most important repertoire of French cello concertos, the first cello concerto by Saint-Saëns, the famous "Dirge" by Fauré, the cello concerto by Lalo, which also has an appealing Spanish atmosphere, and the The program includes Saint-Saens' "The Swan"! Coppéi will perform eloquently with his heart and soul in these works that he has carefully nurtured. The concertmaster of this group is SAMIKA HONDA.Honda has served as the orchestra's concertmaster since 2016 and is also active as a soloist. His album "Souvenirs - Souvenirs" (KKC-056), which beautifully celebrates various "memories," was specially selected by Record Geijutsu (Recorded Arts), and he is a violinist of the moment. Coppey was born in Strasbourg. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, he won the first prize at the J.S. Bach International Competition at the age of 18, which brought him to the attention of the world. His subsequent career has been spectacular, and he has performed as a soloist with conductors such as Eliahu Inbal, Emmanuelle Clivine, Alan Gilbert, and Yutaka Sado. He has also enjoyed a distinguished career as a chamber musician, earning the trust of Michel Bellof, Augustin Dumay, Victoria Mullova, and Emmanuelle Payu. As a member of the Ysaÿe String Quartet (1995-2000), he has made numerous recordings. He currently teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and further expands his activities as artistic director of the Zagreb Soloists Ensemble. King International
