Description:
Venezuelan Azimuth! The long-awaited CD/LP reissue of "ESPERANTO," a spacy Latin jazz-funk masterpiece recorded in 1980 by Caracas' finest musicians! The band is led by multi-instrumentalist Jorge Aguilar and drummer Pablo Matarazzo. While playing Latin music such as salsa and merengue in various bands, they were also strongly influenced by jazz, funk, UK progressive rock, and even Brazilian music that was sweeping the world at the same time. In order to sublimate such diverse musical influences into their own music, they welcomed their friends who had studied in Boston and New York back to Japan and formed this band, Esperanto. The jazz funk "Cosa Suave" with floating spacey synths, the fast jazz samba "Hermoso Dia" with impressive electric piano phrases, the light mellow and loungey classic cover "Vereda Tropical," the dense percussion ensemble with synths, the odd time jazz "Caucaguita," the Beatles cover "Ticket To Ride," and the last one, the spiritual jazz "Ticket To Ride," all with synths. The "Caucaguita" is an odd time jazz song with synths intertwined with a dense percussion ensemble, "Ticket To Ride" is a Beatles cover, and the last song is a spiritual thumb piano tune. The sophisticated grooves, tropical flavors, and gorgeous, comfortable arrangements are truly Venezuelan azimuths. A strong recommendation for Latin jazz fans, jazz-rock fans, and rare groove fans alike.
