An album featuring piano trios by Haydn and Hummel performed by the Trio Chausson. The album features a collection of charming masterpieces, including Haydn’s Piano Trios No. 43 (Hob.XV:27), No. 5 (Hob.XV:1), and No. 25 (Hob.XV:12), as well as Hummel’s Piano Trio No. 2. The recording took place at the Art Center in Angers-les-Bains, a spa town near Paris. Opened in 2002, this new facility is a cultural hub garnering attention for its innovative programs that blend various genres, including music, visual arts, dance, film, and architecture. The recording was handled by renowned French engineer Hugues Deshaud. The natural and refined recording allows listeners to savor the beautiful resonance and clarity of the instruments. While there are legendary performances of Haydn’s piano trios from the past—such as those by the Beaux-Arts Trio and the Casals Trio—the Trio Chausson’s performance features three musicians whose ensemble is perfectly in sync, resulting in a highly balanced performance. In No. 43 (Hob.XV:27), which opens the album, listeners will be captivated by the lively music and the dramatic expression brimming with momentum. Next is Hummel’s Piano Trio No. 2, composed by a student of Mozart. The third movement features a quotation from the Turkish March, making it an accessible piece marked by a light, lively rhythm. The Trio Chausson was formed in 2001. The group was brought together after performing works by Chausson at the Clerac Music Festival.
