The Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert is held every year on January 1. The concert, which began in 1939 and boasts a history of more than 75 years, features the iconic Viennese waltzes and polkas of the Strauss family, the symbol of Vienna's musical capital, as well as the famous "New Year's Eve Concert. In 2023, Franz Welser-Möst, a native Austrian, will appear for the first time in 10 years (since 2011 and 2013). Welser-Möst is one of the conductors most closely associated with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra today. Franz Welser-Möst, conductor, was born in Linz, Austria in 1960. He studied at a music school in his hometown and aspired to become a violinist, but due to an accident, he switched to conducting and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.Starting with the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden, he has held posts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Zurich Opera, and is currently Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra.
