The Tangent

THE TANGENT, a British treasure celebrating 20 years since the band's formation, releases its 12th studio album, "Songs From The Hard Shoulder". The Tangent is a progressive rock band based in the UK. The project was originally started in 2002 by Andy Tillison of PARALLEL OR 90DEGREES and other members of THE FLOWER KINGS and VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR on a one-time-only basis. Since then, the project has morphed into a band and has released 12 albums over the past 20 years while growing their own music." Band leader Andy's belief that "progressive rock is about exploring and breathing the past, present, and future" lives on in this album. Songs From The Hard Shoulder" is an ambitious collection of songs that incorporate classical, punk, death metal, funk, jazz, fusion, pop, electro dance music, and more. The focus of this work is on the songwriting aspect, which is highly complex and deeply considered. It is interesting to note that, with the exception of the final track (4), "Wasted Soul," which foreshadows the future end of the pandemic, three of the songs are over 16 minutes long, and each of the three long songs is a completely different type of song. Imagine if YES, THE STRANGLERS, BEETHOVEN, THE PET SHOP BOYS, APHEX TWIN, EARTH WIND AND FIRE, and THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA had existed at the same time. Eventually, you might end up with a band like ours," Andy confidently states. THE TANGENT suffered many member changes during the first decade of its existence, but has since established a stable and strong lineup that has allowed the band to grow. This is surely the driving force behind the substantial work. A cover of UK's "In The Dead Of Night" is included as a bonus track. <The Tangent Andy Tillison (Vocal/Keyboards) Jonas Reingold (Bass) Luke Machin (Guitar/Vocals) Steve Roberts (Drums) Theo Travis (Sax & Flute)
