Berlioz (1803-1869)

Description:

The 20th release of Sony Classical Masters Box, a budget box of Berlioz recordings from the 1960s and 1970s by Boulez, who is known for his precision in handling music. The MASTERS BOX is a budget-priced series of releases featuring a wide selection of classic masterpieces by established artists from the extensive catalogs of the long-established American classical labels SONY CLASSICAL and RCA RED SEAL, both of which boast more than 100 years of history. This is a popular series that is being released one after another at affordable budget prices. The artwork design is white and eye-catching, and the booklet is not included in this set. This set does not include a booklet. The track listing can be found on the paper jacket of each disc. A stunning sound document of the 1960s and early 1970s, when Boulez was at his most cutting-edge as a conductor. In this groundbreaking recording, "Fantasie" and "Lélio" are packaged together as a pair for the first time in recorded history, as conceived by the composer, and Boulez brings his analytical and acute senses into full play to challenge the listener about the very significance of Berlioz's music. Jean-Louis Barrault, an old friend of Boulez and one of the most famous French actors and directors of the 20th century, plays the role of Lélio. Boulez succeeded Bernstein as Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in 1971, and the overtures, "Summer Nights" and "Cleopatra's Death," recorded shortly thereafter, are also included. The hardness of the quality of this recording stands out as a recording art in which the music is savored in a different way from that of a concert. This is a work that literally highlights the appeal of Boulez as a recording artist. Sony Music
