Next she headed to Nashville, the mecca of American music, where musicians and songwriters live and work together to create music as if they were breathing. It was in that city, where many songs about lost love and the sorrows of love were born, that Birdie was greatly inspired as a songwriter. Writing songs in Nashville was a completely different experience, because everyone around me was a musician. They were all professionals and real storytellers - so they understood me. When I'm writing my own songs, the music usually comes first, and the lyrics don't come easily. I have a sense of what I want to portray or convey in my songs, but I thought it would be nice to have someone else pull the words out for me. Maybe I needed someone who would say, "This is what you wanted to say," and ask me repeatedly until I got the right answer. The production is folky and simple. The last album was more theatrical," she describes. "It was a grand production with a lot going on. This one, on the other hand, is stripped down - there's nothing in it that isn't necessary. If "Beautiful Lies" was a fairy tale, "Young Heart" is a realistic portrait of a young, troubled artist.The song "Voyager," which opens the album, beautifully describes the pain of ending a romantic relationship in a situation where the other person does not yet know, but the songs that follow also depict various contrasts and conflicts, such as discord, loneliness, missing someone you still love, knowing that sorrow is at the center of love and heartbreak, longing for travel, but also falling for the warmth of home you know well. Light and shadow, vast space and home, the desire to hide and the desire to escape to a new place, various contrasts and conflicts are depicted. The single "Surrender" is beautiful and fragile, yet has an air of grandeur about it, and gives a glimpse of what she wanted to portray in this album. This album is very personal - I've grown a lot in the last five years, and I've had new experiences that have shaped my understanding of the world and myself as an artist," she says. Leaving my warm home and going out into the world, discovering the joys of love and the harshness of love, learning to let go, and realizing that I am still standing. --A sensitive and beautiful portrait of a young singer-songwriter who has grown up from a girl.
