At the time of her debut, Laurie Anderson was a unique performer in the New York New Wave movement, and was popular for her innovative sound compositions and ambient style. After 30 years of performing in various capacities, she has now taken on the challenge of creating new music. Her first collaboration with the Kronos Quartet was inspired by her experiences with Hurricane Sandy in 2012. I've always been fascinated by the complex relationships between lyrics, words, and music. The landfall of the hurricane will initiate the language through instruments and our new text software "ERST". The blend of electronic instruments and acoustic strings is the dominant sound of "Landfall".Much of the music in this piece will be generated from proprietary software harmonies and delays designed for the solo viola and reinterpreted for the quartet," said Laurie Anderson. It's music by a master magician musician who is questioning in the sense of real time, always inhabiting a unique and secret place where all the elements of the performance fit together."
