The Romantic Piano Concerto Series (RPCS) is Hyperion's popular series that discovers and revives unknown piano concertos of the Romantic era. Volume 85 is a collection of piano concertos by Carl Reinecke (1824-1910) by pianist Simon Callahan, who has brought to light a variety of unknown music. Carl Reinecke showed his talent from an early age and was already giving public concerts at the age of 12. He later studied with Mendelssohn and Schumann in Leipzig, and in 1860 he became the music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, where he conducted the premiere of Brahms' "German Requiem. A brilliant educator, Reinecke was also director of the Leipzig Conservatory, where his students included Grieg, Bruch, and Janacek. Today, Reinecke is rarely performed except for the "Flute Concerto," but his cadenzas for piano concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and others are well known. Tokyo M-Plus
