Debbie Friday, a producer and singer originally from Nigeria and raised in Canada, is garnering significant attention. She is set to release her debut album, *Good Luck*, co-produced with Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck, METZ, Always), on Sub Pop. DEBBYFRIDAY will release her debut album, *GOODLUCK*, in March 2023 via Sub Pop. Recorded at Candle Recording in Toronto, the album was co-produced and mixed by DEBBYFRIDAY and Graham Walsh (METZ, Holy Fuck, Alvvays), and mastered in New York by Heba Kadry (Björk, Japanese Breakfast, Big Thief, Alex G) in New York. Originally from Nigeria and having moved around Canada—from Montreal to Vancouver to Toronto—DEBBYFRIDAY would go to parties every night to escape the hardships of her home life. Listening to house music in unfamiliar basements and warehouses was the perfect escape. However, in 2017—less than a year after she started DJing—the parties began to fall apart. Instead, she began learning music production on YouTube late at night and completed the EP *BITCHPUNK*. This EP led her to her first public performance and paved the way for her second EP, *DEATHDRIVE*. Her debut album, *GOODLUCK*, superficially evokes the influence of Santigold and Death Grips. However, Graham Walsh—who was nominated for both a Juno Award and a Polaris Music Prize—adds a certain depth and power to the genre’s flexibility, creating a world reminiscent of Sevaliza meets FKATwigs.
