From Bach to Jevski---Levit's pianism transcends 300 years of time and space. Igor Levit, a gifted young Russian pianist with perfect technique and artistic maturity, was born with such musical talent at an early age that he played with an orchestra at the age of six. At the age of eight, he moved with his family to Germany, where he graduated from the Hanover College of Music with the highest honors of his career. Since then, he has won numerous competitions and performed with orchestras and conductors around the world. While Levitt has recorded complex large-scale works, including Beethoven's late sonatas on his debut disc, Bach's Partitas, and a collection of variations by Bach, Beethoven, and Jefsky, the newly released two-CD album titled "Life" is woven with introspective music with a wide variety of musical personalities. The album is a collection of introspective music with a diverse musical character. From the intimate Schumann Variations, the solitary Bach, the sublime Liszt and Busoni, the sensual Wagner ("Isolde's Love Death" was performed as an encore on his first visit to Japan in 2017), and the peace-loving Bill Evans, it is as if an overnight recital had been arranged. The seemingly random selection of songs is all organically linked, expressing not only the contrast between life and death, but also feelings of memory and redemption that transcend time, style, and genre. This selection of songs reflects Levitt's personal feelings.Having recently experienced the tragic death of a close friend, Levitt experienced intense ups and downs of grief, despair, resignation, and consolation. In order to overcome his unresolved grief, Levitt decided to put all of his feelings on the keyboard and to take up the small pieces that had been warming up inside of him.
