Description:

Dvořák captured in a passionate performance at the Berlin Konzerthaus! A dynamic live recording by the Berlin Sinfonietta, led by David Sonjun Park! A live recording of Dvořák’s late masterpiece, Symphony No. 9 “From the New World,” conducted by Korean-born conductor David Sonjun Park. This album captures a 2013 performance at the Berlin Konzerthaus, where Park led the Berlin Sinfonietta, of which he is the principal conductor. It harnesses the energy of a performance in a hall renowned for having some of Europe’s finest acoustics, while meticulous remastering by AudioGuy Studios faithfully reproduces the natural resonance and texture of the orchestra at a high level. The result is a vivid, immersive recording that seems to capture the very atmosphere of the venue. Park served as chief conductor and music director of the Berlin Sinfonietta from 2012 to 2016 and has been active primarily in Europe, conducting New Year’s concerts at the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Berlin Philharmonie in 2017. In 2004, following a collaboration with members of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, he began focusing his activities primarily in Germany. With the Berlin Sinfonietta, he has conducted numerous performances at major venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Berlin Konzerthaus, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus. He has a wide-ranging repertoire, including Handel’s *Messiah*, Bach’s *St. Matthew Passion*, Beethoven’s symphonies, and Vivaldi’s *The Four Seasons*. The Berlin Sinfonietta was founded in 1974 by Hans-Peter Frank, then assistant conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (now the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra), as a chamber orchestra affiliated with the BSO. It was renamed the Berlin Sinfonietta in 1987. At the same time, the ensemble expanded its size and began performing in earnest as a full orchestra. Today, it plays a key role primarily in training the next generation of professional conductors. Tokyo M Plus
