In 1983, he made his major label debut with "Soul Mining (Soul Sculpture)" released on the 4AD label for Epic/UK, and his second album "Infected" in 1986 produced hit singles such as "Sweet Bird of Youth" and "Heartland", which became popular in Japan at the same time. Matt Johnson's solo project, THE THE, became popular in Japan at the same time. In 1989, he released "Mind Bomb" with Johnny Marr (g), formerly of The Smiths. The sound of "The The" with its poignant messages, such as "Beat(en) Generation" and "Armageddon Days Are Here (Again)," which were released as singles, along with "Dusk" in 1993, created a great sensation around the world. In 2017, old friend Johnny Marr rejoined the band to release "We Can't Stop What's Coming," their first single in 15 years, which was released exclusively on Record Store Day; in 2018, they played their first show in 16 years. Matt Johnson continues to consistently deliver a variety of archival material. The album See Without Being Seen, which was reissued and released on Cassette Store Day 2019, will now be reissued on CD with a hardcover book.This work was produced by Matt when he was a teenager and was only released on cassette tape in 1979 in limited quantities, and the discovery of the master tape has now made a CD release possible. Six previously unreleased songs from that time have also been added.
