Listening to the Goldberg Variations on a replica of Michael Mietke’s harpsichord. Italian early music keyboardist Matteo Pasqualini performs the aria and 30 variations from Bach’s timeless masterpiece, the “Goldberg Variations,” on the harpsichord. Having studied under such leading figures in the early music world as Bob van Asperen, Pierre Antay, and Kasper Bücke, and for this recording, he uses a replica of Michael Meitke’s instrument—originally built in Berlin around 1700—crafted by Italian instrument maker Urbano Petroselli. In addition to his work as a soloist, he is also an active member of early music ensembles such as Musica Viva, Hybris Baroque Ensemble, and Musica Elegentia. Tokyo M Plus
