On "Underdressed at the Symphony," recorded at Sonic Ranch, a studio in Texas, with her longtime band, she celebrates experimentation, playfulness, and a sense of adventure. Vocoders, orchestras, strange harmonies and synths are used without sacrificing the spacious quality of Webster's previous songs, and each lyric surfaces with increasing meaning. Wilco's Nels Cline adds emotional fretwork to many of the songs, and the band's own "Pistol" Stoessel's pedal steel adds an exquisite shimmer.
